Native Alligator Awareness and Reporting Guidelines
Riverstone is home to native alligators that inhabit the community’s lakes and bayous. At this time, LID 15 has noted that those sightings have not exhibited behavior defined as “nuisance” by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
Most residents coexist with these animals without issue; however, it is important to remain aware around natural areas and bodies of water.
Residents should never approach, feed, or attempt to interact with alligators.
LID 15 advises residents to report concerning behavior if:
- An alligator is seen in the roadway.
- An alligator repeatedly follows boats, canoes, or other watercraft and maintains a close distance without submerging.
- An alligator comes straight toward a person near the water, especially if it comes out of the water.
If you notice any of these “nuisance” behaviors, contact LID 15 using the following link and the incident will be reported to TPWD: www.fblid15.com/contact-us.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is the authority authorized to determine whether an alligator is considered a nuisance due to its protected status.
Riverstone HOA does not have the authority to remove alligators or enforce their removal.
Thank you for staying aware and helping support a respectful environment for residents, guests, and native wildlife throughout the community.
