Tracy Lee Stum makes a splash in Riverstone

October 07, 2010

Excitement is stirring throughout Houston about street artist Tracy Lee Stum’s visit to Riverstone, with the media and streams of people coming to meet Stum and see her create a 3-D masterpiece in a multi-million-dollar estate home.

Stum arrived in Riverstone late Oct. 5, a bit tired — “Is it Sugarland or Sugartown? Either way I’m there,” she tweeted — but ready to get to work. The large mural quickly began taking shape, with the 3-D elements of a waterfall quickly apparent on a wall in the game room of a custom home built by Sterling Classic Homes.

A full day of work and chatting with visitors followed, with the first round of Houston-area media showing up Thursday morning as Deborah Wrigley with Channel 13 spent some time talking with Stum and preparing for her Hometown Live segment airing that afternoon. KODA’s Dana Tyson was also spotted Thursday morning checking out the chalk art. Next in Riverstone will be Fox 26, which will interview Stum at 7 a.m. for its morning news broadcast Friday. Channel 2’s Courtney Gilmore will be on the scene for interviews at 11:30 a.m. Plus, Molly Glentzer of the Houston Chronicle’s Gloss magazine will be in Fort Bend Friday evening to cover society goings-on during “Artful Living with Neiman Marcus,” the VIP party for the event. And, of course, there have been other radio spots and numerous articles appearing in local media.

Stum will be in Riverstone through the weekend, making occasional appearances at the home and mingling with visitors. Those not able to see the artist in person can still view the artwork, as the home will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 9-17. Tickets are $5 each, with proceeds benefiting various charities. All visitors will have the opportunity to interact with the artwork by standing on the finished piece and becoming part of the 3-D illusion.
