First Colony Middle School

First Colony Middle School is committed to fostering academic excellence while developing the individual strengths and talents of its students, faculty, staff and community. By addressing the unique needs of early adolescents in a supportive and caring environment, the school furthers their development as independent, thinking citizens of character.

The rigorous curriculum at First Colony offers a broad range of elective courses reflecting the interest and needs of students. Students also can get involved through an array of extracurricular activities, including sports, a pep squad, art, math and book clubs, a dance team and student council.

Additional highlights

  • The school has earned an A in Houston Middle School rankings (Children at Risk's 2017 report card).Three First Colony students received grant recognition in 2015 through the Duke University Talent Identification Program, which recognizes high ACT and SAT scores for middle school students.
  • Several First Colony students received grant recognition in 201 7 through the Duke University Talent Identification Program, which recognizes high ACT and SAT scores for middle school students.
  • Named a winner in Exchange Club of Sugar Land’s 2017 Blue Ribbon School Contest.
  • The Lady Bobcats basketball team won the 2014-2015 8A West Division ChampionshipThe 2015 Girls and Boys 8th grade track and field teams finished first in their divisions
  • The National Center for Education Achievement (NCEA) named First Colony Middle School to its 2011 NCEA Higher Performing School List for math and writing.
  • In 2006, First Colony made an encore appearance at the national Math Counts competition, with the Texas team ranking fourth and one First Colony student finishing as a semifinalist.
  • Since 1995, First Colony has served as a Texas Mentor Campus.

Fort Settlement Middle School

Fort Settlement is committed to meeting the individual needs of its students by fostering a community of academic excellence and social responsibility. Dedicated teachers work not only to guide students through middle school, but also to help them become lifelong learners. The curriculum is grounded in solid academic standards customized to middle school-age children. Teachers and administrators are cognizant of the concerns of adolescents and work to create a climate of intellectual development as well as a caring community.

Parents are intensely involved in the school, with Fort Settlement’s PTO raising a significant amount of money to support student learning. Thanks to PTO efforts, the school has a digital video security system, a track and additional classroom equipment including microscopes, telescopes, handheld graphing computers and docking stations for science, atlases and more. 

Additional highlights:

  • Fort Settlement Middle School was ranked first in 2017  among Houston-area middle school by Children at Risk.
  • Fort Settlement students among a select few who received Grand Recognition and State Recognition awards from the 2017 Duke Talented Identification Program for their exceptional scores on the ACT or SAT.
  • The school’s Robo Rodeo Robotics team earned first place at the 2017 district-wide Robotics Competition
  • Fort Settlement was one of 67 schools and districts out of 14 states named a 2015 National School of Character by Character.org
  • The Fort Settlement Math Counts team took second place at the 2015 state finals.
  • In 2013, Fort Settlement was named a Gallup Poll School of High Hope.
  • Fort Settlement’s band program was recognized as the Texas Bandmasters’ Association’s 2012 Exemplary Middle School Band Program.
  • Fort Settlement was named a 2007 No Child Left Behind — Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.
