Recreational Activities, Neighborhood Growth
By Tania Oshman
(Missouri City, TX – Jan. 16, 2010) With new neighborhoods established in 2009 and more openings planned this year, Riverstone is responding to continued growth by hiring an on-site lifestyle director to engage residents in a variety of activities.
Although Melanie Rushe began this month, she actually met with residents in December about the types of activities and events they would like to see in the community.
“There’s such a broad range of interests among residents and such great facilities in Riverstone, that event-planning should be easy,” Rushe said.
A sampling of activities includes wine tastings, 5k runs, dog contests at the community’s bark park, lakeside parties and fitness programs along Riverstone’s broad pedestrian paths and fitness circle.
Another resident perk that will be introduced this year is free Wi-Fi at the Creekstone Recreation Center.
Several new model homes and neighborhoods debuted in the Fort Bend community last year, including new models by Ashton Woods Homes and Coventry Homes in Sanders Glen, a neighborhood in Sugar Land’s extraterritorial jurisdiction with prices from the $340,000s and plenty of homesites available. The neighborhood is near Riverstone’s 75-acre Lake Riverstone.
David Weekley Homes and Plantation Homes opened models in Stonebrook, a neighborhood of 50-foot homesites — a first for Riverstone — with prices from the $200,000s.
Also new in 2009 was the introduction of Ivy Bend, a gated enclave of 10 custom homesites bordering Lake Riverstone.
“Despite a challenging housing market, Riverstone thrived in 2009 and we have high hopes for 2010,” said Tom Wilcox, general manager of Riverstone.
A 3,700-acre community, Riverstone is slated for 6,000 homes during the next eight years. Builders include Ashton Woods, Coventry, Darling Homes, David Weekley, Highland, Meritage, Newmark, Perry, Plantation, The Manor Townhomes, Trendmaker and Westin Homes. Custom builders are Bayou Bend Homes, Christopher Sims Custom Homes, Peterson Homebuilders, Sterling Classic Homes and Westport.
