Lawrence E. Elkins High School

Open since 1992, Elkins boasts an active parent volunteer program and provides strong academics with more than 200 possible course selections including Gifted and Talented programs, honors programs, 21 advanced placement (AP) courses, special education instruction and an extensive vocational-technical curriculum. From the beginning, it has been a "Castle of Champions."

Elkins also compares well with peer campuses, consistently ranking as one of the top Houston-area public high schools and named as one of the 2011 Top High Schools in the Nation by the Washington Post.

Every classroom is equipped with Internet access and at least one multimedia computer. More than 600 computers are stationed throughout the building. All teachers can be reached via e-mail.

UIL-sponsored athletic programs and co-curricular programs including choir, band, drill team, student government, Academic Decathlon and Octathlon also are offered. Notable accomplishments include two UIL state academic championships, three state baseball championships, and numerous district championships in academics, athletics and fine arts.

Elkins also has graduated a number of National Merit Finalists and Semifinalists.


  • Elkins was the pilot high school in the Fort Bend ISD for the Developmental Guidance Model recommended by the State of Texas.
  • In 2002, Elkins won the Blue Ribbon Award, a national award of excellence.
  • Elkins athletes have won three state baseball championships and one state softball championship.
  • Elkins has won two UIL state academic championships, six regional titles and nine district championships (comprising speech, math, literary events, journalism, business, science and theater).
  • Every classroom is equipped with Internet access and at least one multimedia computer, along with a wall-mounted TV monitor. There are two Instructional Technology Specialists on campus who train teachers to integrate technology into the curriculum.
  • There are 13 computer labs on campus with a total of more than 600 computers. In addition, there are 25 laptop computers on wheels and the school has 450 graphing calculators for math and science classes, as well as a state-of-the-art broadcasting system and a central video distribution system.
  • Elkins was named a Texas Pathfinder Collaborative School in 2002-2003.
